NBA Finals Game 1 Recap

Image
The Golden State Warriors blowout the Cleveland Cavaliers 113-91 to take the 1-0 lead. Kevin Durant had a game high 38 points 9 rebounds and 8 assist, shooting 53% from the field. Stephen Curry played outstanding finishing with 28 points 10 assist 6 rebounds, making 6 3-pointers LeBron James finished with 28 points 15 rebounds 8 assist, while Kevin Love grabbed a game high 21 rebounds game high with 15 points. Man... I wasn't expecting this. I was looking forward to a good game since the rest of the playoffs been such a drag. Half of me wants this to be a great series full of "scrappiness" and close games, but the other half of me know what time it is. And this Game 1 blowout is what time it is. The Warriors have been waiting on this moment since the day Kevin Durant signed. Golden State threw the best punches time after time after time. There were a few times, especially in the first half where the Cavs had life but Durant was too much. twincitiesbusinessradio.com ...

NBA MVP Race

Image
This season there are 5 legit candidates for this year's MVP award. TheSportsPack breaks down the pros and cons of each superstar Russell Westbrook - The Oklahoma City point guard putting up once in a lifetime numbers for a team that lost its other superstar last summer in Kevin Durant. Westbrook's 32.1 points per game leads the league and his 10.5 rebounds and 10 assist a game puts him on a level only Oscar Robinson has achieved. The Thunder are still a playoff team so not only is Westbrook filling up stat sheets; he competing with the elite teams on a nightly basis. If Westbrook can average a triple-double at seasons end it was be almost impossible to deny him the MVP award. Outside of the triple-double rampage Westbrook is on, the OKC Thunder are currently 7th in the west. No MVP has ever finished lower than a 3rd seed.  According to the trend of the award, your personal performance has to be reflected in your team's success. No doubt Westbrook is a top 3 talent bu...

Melo Deserves Love

Image
businessinsider.com Phil Jackson want to trade Carmelo Anthony because he doesn't feel like Melo is the type of player you can build a franchise around. That on top of Kristap Porzingis success has Jackson wanting to start the rebuilding process as soon as possible. Problem is, the contract Melo's is under now has him making around $54 million dollars over the next 2 years, with the 2nd year being a player option. No NBA team is giving up start players or prime lottery picks for an aging superstar who makes a ton of money.  Another problem that Phil Jackson has with trading Melo is that Anthony has a no trade clause in his contract. Any trade involving a team that Melo doesn't want to play for is out of the question. Melo not playing for a team who is bad enough to have a top lottery pick. And any team contending for a championship doesn't want to add a one dimensional player to their lineup. So Melo is stuck in New York. Phil Jackson hates him. The fans are sta...

76ers protest

Image
By: Demitry Johnson Last night the Philadelphia proved the ultra talented rising R&B singer Sevyn Streeter to be absolutely correct by wearing the shirt "We matter" in a silent protest of the social injustice towards minorities. Before last nights season opener between the Philadelphia 76ers and Oklahoma City Thunder it was some extreme controversy as to why R&B singer Sevyn Streeter was getting ready to perform the national anthem before being notified that she had being pulled because of a shirt she chose to wear that said "We matter"... That's right not "black lives matter" it simply stated "We Matter" and the Philadelphia 76ers failed their fans, the city, the players, coaches and this young woman. The statement from the organization was total contradiction of their actions of pulling her from singing the national anthem.  1."The Philadelphia 76ers encourage meaningful action to drive social change....

NBA Recap 10/27/2016

Washington Wizards 99 vs Atlanta Hawks 114 - The new look Hawks win their opening night match up against the Wizards in dominating fashion. Dwight Howard finished with 19 rebounds while All-Star Paul Millsap leads the way with 28 points 7 rebounds and 6 assist. Dwight Howard and Paul Millsap  combined for 39 points and 26 rebounds (ajc.com) Great win for the Hawks. People questioned rather Dwight Howard would fit into the "lunch pale" mentality Atlanta play with but with 15 1st half rebounds he will work out fine. Moving Dennis Schroder to the starting point guard spot was another concern for Hawks fans. Jeff Teague is a scorer but what you lose of the offensive end you gain back with tough on ball defense with Schroder. Tim Hardaway Jr. was impressive tonight finishing with 23 points on 8-13 shooting. It's been a rocky start to Hardaway Jr career but he look comfortable coming off the bench for the Hawks. The Hawks will be a playoff team but no higher than a...

Reason for Hope in LA?

Image
bleacherreport.com By: Demitry Johnson   Last night the Los Angeles Lakers were very impressive leaving a lot of people leaving Staples Center and watching around the league very optimistic about this team. Last night the Lakers open their season against a Houston Rocket team who, lets just face it, are suppose to be superior to this young Laker team with a 120-114 victory. If you look at the box score for the Houston Rockets you might ask how do you lose to the Lakers when James Harden has 34 points 17 assist and 8 rebounds, Eric Gordon seems to be back to his college days scoring 19 points and Clint Capella, who is an upgrade over Dwight Howard getting 16 points and 9 rebounds. There were 3 keys to last night and the Lakers off-season that contributed to that win.  1. Effort was consistent all night, through the runs Houston made, some questionable calls, this young team still for 4 quarters played with the right effort and energy. nba.com 2. Bench...

NBA Recap 10/26/2016

Miami Heat 108 vs Orlando Magic 96 - After leading by 3 at halftime, the Magic were outscored 30-16 in the 3rd quarter. Hassan Whiteside lead the Heat in scoring with 18 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Miami bench outscored the Magic 42-17. Miami looked shaky during the first half, in particular their perimeter defense allowing too many open jump shots and easy penetration. During the third quarter the defense stepped up which allowed easy fast break points. Liked how much Justice Winslow was bringing the ball down the court. Not the best handles but his passing ability is underrated. Plus he was active on both ends of the floor. Biggest question mark going forward for Miami will be its bench. They scored 42 points tonight but I doubt these performances will be the norm. In the first half Orlando was knocking down the open shots, moving the ball well and rebounding outside their zones. The second half was a totally different story. The Heat are a well coached team but not goo...

Spurs helped Warriors?

Image
By: Demitry Johnson espn.com Why getting blown out was the best thing that could happen to these Golden State Warriors.. nba.com During the 2015-2016 campaign the Golden State Warriors went the whole season without being humbled, now yes they lost games even had a few close calls but it always seemed as if they still weren't humble. They always believed last year that they could flip it on whenever they were in trouble and I believe coming back from being 3-1 down against the Thunder still didn't humble them, if anything boosted their ego even more. It wasn't until Game 7 when the clock sounded and Lebron James and the rest of the Cleveland Cavaliers begin celebrating winning the NBA title at that moment Golden State was humbled but it was too late. This offseason, signing of Kevin Durant, one could see the arrogance all over the Warriors organization, press conference, the coaching staff etc. So coming into the 2015-2016 season the confidence lev...

Time for a Change in L.A.?

Image
The Los Angeles Clippers have the most talented roster in the NBA. With a who's who of high profile players from Chris Paul and Blake Griffin to Paul Pierce and Josh Smith, many experts predict the Clippers will win the championship this season. But with a 6-7 start, those predictions may be far fetched.  After losing a 3-1 series lead to the Houston Rockets in the western conference semifinals, the Clippers when into the off season looking to improve an already talented team. Austin Rivers showed signs of life during the postseason which solidified his as the backup point guard. Resigning DeAndre Jordan to a 4-year $87 million deal kept the league leader in rebounds and 1st team all defense center from bolting to the Dallas Mavericks in the late hours of free agency. Adding Wesley Matthews, Paul Pierce, Josh Smith and Lance Stephenson has strengthen a bench that was 23rd in scoring and 28th in points allowed. The Clippers started this season off hot winning its first 4 game...

The Resurgence of Rajon Rondo

Image
At a time where “score first” point guards dominate the NBA, it’s hard to appreciate a floor general that only average 12.7 points a game. But when those 13 points come with stifling defense and 10 assist a game, Rajon Rondo may be playing his way back into elite status this season. With 4 triple-doubles in his last 9 games for a struggling Kings team, it will be hard to find another player in the league putting out as much effort on the court as Rondo is this season. Last year was a season of turmoil for the 4-time all-star as he started the season as a Boston Celtic under heavy trade speculation. The Celtics were rebuilding, which included drafting point guard Marcus Smart with their top-10 pick in the draft. Despite the rumors and the Celtics drafting his replacement, Rondo still managed to lead the NBA in assist while recording 7 double-doubles in the first 22 games of the season. After a 13 point, 15 assist, 7 rebound and 2 steal game against the Magic, Boston trade...
