Russell Westbrook: The Last of a Dying Breed
Russell Westbrook is the last of a unique breed of NBA players. Yes Lebron James is the best player in the world but there isn't a more fearless player in the NBA then Russell Westbrook. He has zero interest in making any friends on the court, if you are on the opposing team he doesn't just want to beat you he wants to destroy you. Is Lebron the best right now overall? Yes but pound for pound its hard to pick again Russell. He is on the verge of doing something that only the great Oscar Robertson did and that's average a triple double throughout the whole season. But lets put the stats aside for a minute; lets look at Russell Westbrook the basketball player minus the stats. Fearless, has unique drive to win, he plays every game like its his last, doesn't complain about needing help, he hasn't hid his emotions towards Kevin Durant leaving in other words if you're not on this mans team he hates you. These NBA players in this time period is so buddy buddy, but like Kobe, A.I, and Jordan Russell Westbrook isn't interested in any of that friendly stuff. He has that inner dog in him, that dog that you can't coach, you can not pretend to have; it is something you are born with. Quite frankly he is a superstar despite what Mark Cuban thinks and we should enjoy what he's doing because players with that "dog" in them are going extinct and Russ might be the last glimpse of that player with that real dog in him. He is one heck of a talent and people have wondered if he can keep up this pace he is on but I never once doubted that he could. Guys like him are built differently physically and mentally.
They have a way of blocking out the noise and do what they do on the court, criticism motivates them, losing motivates them, winning motivates them. It is almost impossible to stop these kind of people from accomplishing whatever it is they set out to do. So enjoy Russell Westbrook Era " The Last of a Dying Breed." In my opinion he will be your League MVP at the end of the season.
