Week 5 CFB Playoff Pedictions

Week 5 Playoff Projections

Ed Wilkins | College Football Analyst

#1 Florida State 3-0 (LW: Win: Clemson F/OT-23-17)

With Jameis Winston suspended for the game, Sean Maguire had to step in at quarterback to escaped Clemson in a thrilling overtime win. Maguire went 21-39 passing with 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions. Florida State looked as if they were going to take a loss as Maguire threw an interception in their own territory with 2:14 remaining in the game. That stingy Florida State defense forced a turnover to get into overtime. A questionable 4 & 1 call from Clemson Coach Dabo Swinney gave the Seminoles all the momentum as they stopped the Tigers. Karolos Williams scored on a 12-yard touchdown run to save Florida State’s season. Winston will be back in the lineup next week as they take on North Carolina State (4-0), perhaps a trap game.

#2 Oregon 4-0 (LW: Win: Washington State F/38-31)

Superman Mariota threw for 329 yards and five touchdowns in a close hard fight at Washington State. Devon Allen and Keanon Lowe are grooming into Mariota’s favorite targets as they both had 2 touchdowns. The Ducks were tied with the Cougars going into the half. Connor Halliday threw for 436 yards and four touchdowns on the Ducks defense. Oregon defeated their first 3 opponents by an average score of 52-18, all home games. The Ducks escape this game but are they more likely to lose on the road? Oregon has a bye-week next week end then takes on undefeated Arizona; the schedule will continue to get more difficult on the road to the College Football Playoffs.

#3 Alabama 4-0 (LW: Win: Florida F/42-21)

Blake Sims and Amari Cooper dominated Florida this weekend. Sims threw for 445 yards which is second best in school history. The nation’s best receiver Amari Cooper had 10 catches for 200 yards and 3 TOUCHDOWNS! Alabama looked very good but is Florida even a quality win? The Tide is 4-0 this season with wins over no ranked schools. Do not sleep on the tide though because each week they continue to get better. Bama has a week off before playing division rival Ole Miss on the road.

#4 Oklahoma (LW: Win: West Virginia F/45-33)

No Keith Ford, no problem. 243-pound freshman Samaje Perine rushed for 242 yards and 4 touchdowns. Perine became the first Sooner to rush for over 200 yards since DeMarco Murray. Alex Ross also stepped up in absence of Keith Ford with a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Knight threw for 205 yards while Sterling Shepard caught 6 passes and 101 yards. Oklahoma proved that they have depth in the backfield and are very balanced. The Sooners have a bye-week this weekend but comes back the following weekend to take on a touch TCU team on the road. If Oklahoma can stay healthy they will punch a ticket to the College Football Playoffs.
