Spotlight on 1st year NBA Head Coaches

Quin Snyder Utah Jazz - Quin Snyder becomes the 8th coach in Jazz history after a dismal 25-57 season. With an average age of 24.1, Utah is the 3rd youngest team in the NBA. Coach Snyder's first mission will be to find some type of production offensively. Utah finished 29th in scoring averaging 95 points per. To improve on this, Snyder will implement a motion offense with a lot of floor spacing. This will create a lot of opportunities at the basket for the Jazz resulting in easy buckets. With young talent such as Trey Burke, Dante Exum and Rodney Hood, I don't expect Coach Snyder to lead them to the playoffs, but with time this team will grow together and be fun to watch in the upcoming years.

David Blatt Cleveland Cavaliers - David Blatt was hired June 20 to take over in place of fired Mike Brown. Since then he has seen his roster turn from lottery pick status to the favorite to win it all. How will Coach Blatt manage all the talent on this roster? With his European style motion offense, and a stretch 4 that can consistently knock down shots, Blatt's offense will open up more driving lanes for LeBron James and Kyrie Irving. The most wins by a rookie head coach is 62 set by Tom Thibodeau of the Chicago Bulls in 2011. With three all stars in the starting five, expect Coach Blatt to have a legit shot at surpassing that mark.

Derek Fisher New York Knicks - Expectations are high in New York after several roster moves this off season. New President Phil Jackson hires Fisher after coaching him top five championships. Derek Fisher's 20 seasons of NBA experience and hard nose style of play could transition well to the sideline. It will take some time for Fisher to adjust to being a coach and may struggle early into the season. With premier scorer Carmelo Anthony and a host of talented players around him, Derek Fisher can at least take New York back to the playoffs and even make a run at an eastern conference finals appearance.

Steve Kerr Golden State Warriors - From the announcing booth to head coach, Steve Kerr will take over the Warriors for his former co-worker Mark Jackson. Kerr inherited a 51 win team that is top 10 in the NBA in scoring and defensive scoring. Kerr will bring a triangle-style offense to Golden State in hopes it would provide more ball movement and less isolation basketball. With improved depth in the backcourt and the best shooter in the league in Stephen Curry, I do not see the Warriors winning the west but could very well make a run deep into the western conference playoffs.
