Trell's CFB Week 3 Upset Watch

Image
Two weeks down in the college football season and now the non-conference schedule becomes more intriguing.  Put away the FCS schools and let's take a look at some non-conference games that has "Upset Alert" potential. East Carolina vs #17 Virginia Tech (Noon ET, ESPN) Shane Carden is third in the AAC in  passer  rating and passing yards The Hokies are coming off of an impressive 35-21 victory versus Ohio State in Columbus which propelled Virginia Tech to 17th in the polls. Frank Beamer's team has won the last 3 matchup against the Pirates by a combine score of 81-37 but lets not forget about the 27-22 win by East Carolina in 2008 that fueled this rivalry. The Pirates are coming off a tough 33-23 loss to South Carolina after leading 13-7 early in the 2nd quarter. ECU produced 453 yards of total offense against an SEC defense but couldn't stay on the field for long only having 23 minutes of possession time. If Va Tech is hungover after last week's wi

College Football Games to Watch Week 3

Week 3 Games to Watch Ed Wilkins | College Football Analyst Tennessee 2-0 @ #4 Oklahoma 2-0 ABC 8:00PM Trevor Knght throws for 299 and 2 touchdowns vs Tulsa ·      Bob Stoops is not shy to say that his team can compete with the SEC. Oklahoma did defeat Alabama in Sugar Bowl last season and this Saturday the Sooners meet their first test against a rising Volunteers team. Oklahoma’s defense has been lights out this season. The Sooners defense only has allowed 3 points in the first half! Do not sleep on Tennessee at all because the Vols have the type of speed on defense that can disrupt the quarterback. Keep your eyes on linebacker AJ Johnson to have an impact in this game. All eyes will be on Trevor Knight and Sterling Shepard when Oklahoma has the football. This will be a close football game! #12 UCLA 2-0 vs Texas 1-1 (AT&T Stadium) FOX 8:15PM Brent Hundley completed 69% of his passes in UCLA first two games ·     For many, the Bruins were big favo

Trell's NFL Power Rankings Week 2 Edition

1. Seahawks (W vs GB 36-16 ) Seattle dominated Aaron Rodgers and the Packers offense. Business as usual for the defending Super Bowl Champions. Next Game: @ San Diego 2.  Broncos ( W vs IND 31-24 ) Peyton Manning throws for 3 touchdowns as the defending AFC champions defeat the Colts in a potential AFC Championship preview. Next Game: vs Kansas City 3. 49ers ( W @ DAL 28-17 ) The 49er defense caused 4 Dallas turnovers, 3 of those being Tony Romo interceptions. Next Game: vs Chicago 4. Bengals ( W vs BAL 23-16 ) A.J. Green had 6 receptions for 131 yards and the game winning touchdown. Bengals forced 2 turnovers in the division win. Next Game: vs Atlanta 5. Trell's Race for the Heisman Week 3 Edition

Image
1. Jameis Winston FSU ( 22-27 256 yards 1TD ) In just a little over a half of work, Winston managed to throw for over 250 yards in his 4th straight regular season game. Easy win for FSU as they go into the bye week the number one team in the nation. September 20th Winston will be tested with a home game versus Atlantic Division rival Clemson. 2. Marcus Mariota ORE ( 17-28 318 yards 3 TD ) Mariota led the Ducks from a 24-18 halftime deficit to a 46-27 win against top 10 Michigan State. Two out of the three Mariota touchdowns came during a 28-0 run that sealed the game for Oregon. Mariota controlled the 2nd half of the game but I don't see that as enough to take the number one spot in the Heisman race.  Oregon will face Wyoming at home this Saturday. Expect another big stat game from Mariota. 3. Kenny Hill TAMU ( 17-26 283 yards 4 TD ) So far so good for Kenny Hill in replacing Heisman trophy quarterback Johnny Manziel as he moves into the 3rd spot of my Heisman ra

Trell's 5 BOLD Predictions for the 2014-15 NBA Season

Image
Football is upon us but it's never a bad time to talk NBA hoops. A lot has change in the NBA since the Spurs won the title in June over the Miami Heat. LeBron's return to Cleveland, Carmelo staying in NYC and a host of other off season moves have most NBA teams feeling good about their chances to make a title run. Things can change between now and the tip-off of a new season but here are my five predictions that most NBA fans will not see coming. 1 . The Raptors will make the Eastern Conference Final The Toronto Raptors are coming off a surprising season finishing 3rd in the East with a 48-34 record. Despite getting knocked out in the 1st round by the more experienced Brooklyn Nets in 7 games, the Raptors have been quiet but very productive this off season. Resigning "boarder line all-star" Kyle Lowry was top priority for the Raptors who will also have the services of all-star and FIBA World Cup participate DeMar DeRozen. To boost their depth in the backcourt

Week 3 CFB Playoff Predictions

Ed Wilkins | College Football Analyst Week 3 Playoff Projections #1 Florida State 2-0 (LW: WIN: The Citadel F/37-12) ·         Nothing out of the ordinary, Florida State wins yet ANOTHER game, extending their win streak to 18 games. The Seminoles may have proved to us that they have depth; 10 different players caught a pass and 7 different players recorded rushing yards. Winston threw for 256 and 2 touchdowns in the rout over lower-tier The Citadel. Florida State was able to drive up and down the field while their starters were in the game (starters sat the 4 th quarter). Both touchdowns for The Citadel came in the 4 th quarter. Florida State has a bye-week then they are set to take on Clemson (Sep. 20). Look for the Seminoles to improve coming out of their bye-week. #2 Oregon 2-0 (LW: WIN: Michigan State F/46-27) ·        I learned that the Ducks are FAST, physical, and can face adversity well. The Ducks were down 27-18 early in the 3 rd quarter. Michigan S

1.        Florida State (2-0) W vs. The Citadel 37-12 -The Seminoles coast to another victory as this gives them a school record 18 consecutive wins and remain the number one team in the land. Jameis Winston goes 22-27 256 yards with two touchdowns in a little over a half worth of playing time.  The FSU defense allowed 72 yards passing and no points through three quarters of play. Next for the Seminoles will be division rival Clemson in Doak Campbell Stadium after a bye week. Last time the Tigers traveled to Tallahassee was in 2011 where the Seminoles won 49-37. 2.        Oregon (2-0) W vs. #7 Michigan St. 46-27 -Down 24-18 at halftime, Marcus Mariota throws for two touchdowns in the second half to lead the Ducks to the 19 point victory.  A brutal rushing attack by Oregon had the defending Big 10 champs on their heels all afternoon. USM Escapes Alcorn

Ed Wilkins | College Football Analyst              The last time these two teams met, Southern Miss outpaced Alcorn State 52-0. Southern Miss picked up their first win of the season against Alcorn but was a lot closer than what fans wanted to see with the score being 26-20              Kicker Corey Acosta had career high nailing 4 field goals, including a 50 yard make (longest of his career). The freshman Ito Smith had his first career 100-yard game of his young career rushing for 118-yards on 32 carries. Nick Mullens had a solid performance where he was 21-33 passing with 208-yards 2 touchdowns and no interceptions. Southern Miss led 20-7 at halftime but was outscored by the Braves 13-6 in the second half. The defense only gave up 98 yards passing but Braves quarterback Jr. Gibbs rushed for 161 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown. The Golden Eagles forced 4 turnovers including the game clinching interception by redshirt freshman Jomez Applewhite.             A w
