Trell's Race for the Heisman Week 6 Edition

Image
1. Marcus Mariota (IDLE) Mariota was on a bye week Saturday but his play throughout Oregon's first four games is more than enough to keep the junior quarterback the front runner for the Heisman.  Marcus leads the nation in completion percentage (74%) and quarterback rating (218.0). Huge conference game coming up for the Ducks as an undefeated Arizona team comes to Eugene. Consistent play in conference games provide a resume booster when its time for Heisman voting. Expect Mariota to continue putting up big numbers. 2. Kenny Hill (21/41 386 yards 4 TD) Kenny Hill had his first "Heisman Moment" this week versus Arkansas. Hill completed two passes in the final 2:29 to tie the game and a touchdown pass in the first play of overtime to win. The sophomore Hill is top five in passing yards, touchdowns and quarterback rating. The Aggies will travel to #12 Mississippi State. A couple Heisman moments in this game could make "Kenny Trill" the new Heisman front...

1. Marcus Mariota (21/25 329 yards 5 TD | 58 rush yards) Mariota completed 84 percent of his passes and 5 touchdowns to beat a pesky Washington State team. Three of Mariota's five touchdowns came in a closely contested second half. The Ducks QB has attempted 96 passes and 13 touchdowns without throwing an interception. Not only is Marcus Mariota the front runner for the Heisman, he looks to be the number 1 pick in the next NFL draft. 2. Kenny Hill (16/22 2 TD | 57 rush yards ) Kenny Hill continues to impress me with his poise and play making ability. Despite throwing his 1st interception of the season vs SMU, Hill continues to lead the SEC in passing yards. After Saturday's match up against Arkansas, Texas A&M will face three ranked SEC West  opponents in a row. That stretch will determine if Kenny Hill is Heisman material or just took advantage of a sub par non conference schedule. 3.  Todd Gurley (6 carries 73 yards) Gurley had a short day against Tro...

1. Jameis Winston ( IDLE ) - Winston and the Seminoles had the week off and is preparing for #22 Clemson. A "Jameis Winston like" game versus the Tigers in Tallahassee will secure his spot as the Heisman frontrunner. 2. Marcus Mariota ( 19/23 221 yards 2 TD | 71 rush yards 2 TD ) Mariota filled the stat sheet up in a 48-14 rout over Wyoming. 292 total yards from scrimmage and 4 total touchdowns is a good momentum boost going into the Ducks first road game of the season versus Washington State. 3. Kenny Hill ( 20-31 300 yards 4 TD ) Hill has thrown 117 pass attempts without an interception to start the season. Second four touchdown game in as many weeks.  Texas A&M travels to Dallas to play the SMU Mustangs. Expect "video game like" numbers from Hill this week. 4. Everett Golson (25-40 259 yards 3 total TD)  After missing last season, its seems like Golson has not missed a step. The Notre Dame quarterback QB rating is 26 points   higher than hi...

1. Jameis Winston FSU ( 22-27 256 yards 1TD ) In just a little over a half of work, Winston managed to throw for over 250 yards in his 4th straight regular season game. Easy win for FSU as they go into the bye week the number one team in the nation. September 20th Winston will be tested with a home game versus Atlantic Division rival Clemson. 2. Marcus Mariota ORE ( 17-28 318 yards 3 TD ) Mariota led the Ducks from a 24-18 halftime deficit to a 46-27 win against top 10 Michigan State. Two out of the three Mariota touchdowns came during a 28-0 run that sealed the game for Oregon. Mariota controlled the 2nd half of the game but I don't see that as enough to take the number one spot in the Heisman race.  Oregon will face Wyoming at home this Saturday. Expect another big stat game from Mariota. 3. Kenny Hill TAMU ( 17-26 283 yards 4 TD ) So far so good for Kenny Hill in replacing Heisman trophy quarterback Johnny Manziel as he moves into the 3rd spot of my Heisman ra...

1. Jameis Winston FSU ( 25-40 370 yards 1 TD 2 INT | 1 rush TD) Jameis may not have look flawless but after a long offseason and being a stud on the baseball field maybe fatigue played a factor. Nevertheless, Winston's 28 yard touchdown scamper in a close game is a nice way to impress early Heisman voters. If Jameis Winston's off the field troubles don't catch up with him, this could be the start of a back-to-back Heisman campaign. 2. Marcus Mariota ORE (14-20 267 yards 3 TD | 43 rush yards 1 TD) Marcus Mariota services were only needed for the 1st half versus South Dakota but that's all it took for Mariota to show the country that he hasn't lost a step. If Mariota has a big game versus #7 Michigan St., expect Marcus to become the front-runner in a two man race to begin the season. 3. Todd Gurley UGA (15 car 198 yards 3 TD | 100 yard kick return TD) Gurley destroyed a #16 ranked Clemson that some predicted as a dark horse to make the playoffs.  After coming...
