Melo Deserves Love

businessinsider.com
Phil Jackson want to trade Carmelo Anthony because he doesn't feel like Melo is the type of player you can build a franchise around. That on top of Kristap Porzingis success has Jackson wanting to start the rebuilding process as soon as possible. Problem is, the contract Melo's is under now has him making around $54 million dollars over the next 2 years, with the 2nd year being a player option. No NBA team is giving up start players or prime lottery picks for an aging superstar who makes a ton of money.

Another problem that Phil Jackson has with trading Melo is that Anthony has a no trade clause in his contract. Any trade involving a team that Melo doesn't want to play for is out of the question. Melo not playing for a team who is bad enough to have a top lottery pick. And any team contending for a championship doesn't want to add a one dimensional player to their lineup.

So Melo is stuck in New York. Phil Jackson hates him. The fans are starting to boo him at home games. Trade rumors everywhere. This is not what Melo deserve. Knicks fan must have forgot that they haven't had a player with this much talent suit up for them since Patrick Ewing. At 24.9 points per game, Anthony ranks 3rd in Knicks history. No Melo didn't lead the Knicks to the promise land . but who could against LeBron and his stacked teams? The Knicks sat the bar too high for Melo. Not because Melo is not talented enough but because the Knicks couldn't provide the help he needed to reach it.

Phil Jackson is a true champion in every aspect of the word. Does he have what it takes to turn the Knicks into a championship franchise? Don't know but Porzingis is a great start. All I'm sayig is that he needs to back off of Melo with the comments and tweets. You can't trade him. Stop alienating him. Melo has done all he could for the Knicks to keep them relevant. He doesn't deserve to be treated like that. Just be cool and try your best to bring playoff basketball back to Madison Square Garden.
