Trell's CFB Week 3 Upset Watch

Two weeks down in the college football season and now the non-conference schedule becomes more intriguing.  Put away the FCS schools and let's take a look at some non-conference games that has "Upset Alert" potential.

East Carolina vs #17 Virginia Tech (Noon ET, ESPN)

Shane Carden is third in the AAC in
passer rating and passing yards
  • The Hokies are coming off of an impressive 35-21 victory versus Ohio State in Columbus which propelled Virginia Tech to 17th in the polls. Frank Beamer's team has won the last 3 matchup against the Pirates by a combine score of 81-37 but lets not forget about the 27-22 win by East Carolina in 2008 that fueled this rivalry. The Pirates are coming off a tough 33-23 loss to South Carolina after leading 13-7 early in the 2nd quarter. ECU produced 453 yards of total offense against an SEC defense but couldn't stay on the field for long only having 23 minutes of possession time. If Va Tech is hungover after last week's win, expect ECU to take this game down to the wire

#21 Louisville vs Virginia (12:30 ET, ESPN 3)

Henry Coley is tied for the ACC lead in tackles with 22
  • Louisville travels to Charlottesville for their first ACC road game in what seems to be a comfortable win for the Cardinals. However, Virginia is coming off a blowout win versus Richmond and a close lost to then ranked #7 UCLA. Both starting quarterbacks have a quarterback rating of 149 and throughout two games Virginia has the ACC leader in sacks Max Valles. I expect the Cavaliers to keep it close enough for a last second chance to win.

UCF vs #20 Missoui (Noon ET, SEC Network)
  • Missoui is coming into this game after two blowout wins verses mediocre competition to start the season. UCF on the other hand started off the college football season in Ireland as the Golden Knights lost to Penn State on a last second 36-yard field goal. The UCF forced 3 turnovers and had two weeks to prepare for the Tigers and rest from the overseas trip. Despite Missoui 2-0 record, the Tigers are 9th in the SEC in total offense. If Missouri is not careful this game could get out of hand early.
