Geno Auriemma 'is a joke'

Last week before the men's final four Geno Auriemma made some interesting comments about men's college basketball stating that it is 'a joke' and that there are only 10 teams out of 25 that play the type brand basketball that people would want to watch.

Geno, I understand where you are coming from. Since the NBA implemented the one-and-done rule there has been a decline in overall competition within men's college basketball. With the best college basketball players going to the NBA after one or two seasons, men's college basketball is left with "2nd tier" caliber basketball talent. Also with the one-and-done system, college basketball coaches have a more difficult time implementing coaching systems and strategies. By now men's basketball coaches are adjusting to the rule change and hopefully we will see a more widespread of talented basketball teams throughout the country.

But Geno? You are a women's college basketball coach. No knock on women's basketball but there are key differences between the two. There are no-and-done situations which gives coaches time for players to get adjusted to their systems. Women's basketball have slight differences in the game rules such as no 10 second rule, which gives teams with lesser talent a way to be competitive.

Outside of that, Geno you coach the UConn women's basketball team. You just won your 10th championship and is 10-0 in those games. UConn's dominance of the women's college basketball game can be compared to the greatest teams in sports history. When the question is not who will win the championship but will UConn go undefeated doing it, that's when your sport is behind the times. women's college basketball is in my opinion the worst basketball to watch as far as talent, level of competition and entertainment. The best play in women's college basketball is a back door cut or a tip in lay up.

I understand where Coach Auriemma is coming from because the talent level in men's college basketball isn't like it use to be but when you are involved in women's college basketball you have no room to discuss the entertainment level of another sport.
