Five CFB Coaches That Will Never Win a National Championship

1. Mark Richt (127-64 record at Georgia) Richt took over as head coach of the Bulldogs after six years under Bobby Bowden at Florida State. In just his second season, Richt lead Georgia to a 12-1 which included an SEC Championship and a Sugar Bowl win. Since, Coach Richt has posted seven 10+ win seasons and two BCS Bowls.  The recent success of Mark Richt has made Bulldog fans forget about that four game losing streak in 2010 that could have cost Richt his job. Unfortunately for Georgia, Coach Richt has yet to make an championship game appearance and has not been to a BCS bowl since 2007. The SEC is the toughest conference in college football and with Georgia not having a top 5 recruiting class since 2011, the Bulldogs does not have enough depth to make a run at a national championship anytime soon.

2. Frank Beamer (226-110-2 at Virginia Tech) Frank Beamer has been a staple at Virginia Tech since his arrival in 1987.  His numbers are legendary including seven conference championships, 6 BCS bowls and a national championship appearance in 1999.  Not only has Coach Beamer been terrific on the sidelines but he has coached a host of NFL talent such as Michael Vick, DeAngelo Hall and 2014 1st round pick Kyle Fuller.  Moving from the Big East to the ACC at the time looked like an easier path to a championship for Virginia Tech. With Florida State on top and schools such as Duke North Carolina and Miami improving, the Hokies must regain control of the Coastal Division before even thinking about a national championship.

3. Brian Kelly (40-15 at Notre Dame) Brian Kelly made his head coaching debut with Central Michigan and has been moving up the ranks quickly. A stop in Cincinnati turned into a 34-6 record with an undefeated regular season before accepting the Notre Dame job. Kelly turned the historic program around which was coming off a 6-6 record to an 8-5 season his first year. In 2012 Coach Kelly led the Irish to the national championship game where they were dominated by Alabama. Recruiting based off tradition is near the end for Notre Dame as they haven't won a championship since 1988. Due to the Irish independent status and strength of schedule, even if Brian Kelly runs the table, they will always need outside help for a championship appearance

4. Will Muschamp  (24-16 at Florida) Will Muschamp inherited a program that was coming off three BCS bowl games in the last four years, two of them being national championship wins. After spending 2 seasons as Texas defensive coordinator, Muschamp stepped in and lead young Florida team to a Gator Bowl victory. The momentum from the bowl win carried over as Florida went 11-2 and appeared in the Sugar Bowl.  Since the 2012 season, Florida has suffered numerous injuries that lead to their first losing season since 1979. Coach Muschamp hasn't had any luck in recruiting as well as the Gators have impressive classes on paper but that talent has not panned out on the field. It is more competitive than ever recruiting in Florida and the SEC East is becoming more balanced. Before Muschamp think about winning a national championship, he need to ensure that he has a job come seasons end.

5. Jim Mora Jr. (22-8 at UCLA) Jim Mora Jr. brings NFL experience to a UCLA team that has not had a 10 win season since 2005. Mora first season at UCLA resulted in a 9-5 record and their first appearance in the AP Poll since 2008.  2013 the Bruins went 10-3 with a Sun Bowl victory. During the season UCLA was ranked as high as 9 in the AP Poll. Coach Mora has done an outstanding job bringing life back to Pasadena. UCLA is currently 3-0 but with USC playing at a high level along with other Pac-12 powers Stanford and Oregon, it will be a challenge for Mora to bring his team to the top of the conference.  Being in the same city as USC does not help when trying to lure recruits. USC can recruit solely off of tradition and conference dominance.  UCLA has became a perinatal top 25 team under Mora but a national champion may be too far of a reach.
